RedOil publishes educational guides about engine oil. This policy describes the standard for researching, checking and maintaining that content. The aim is to help readers understand a topic, recognize the limits of an explanation and locate the source information relevant to their vehicle.
Sources and Evidence
For model-specific specifications, the starting point is the owner’s manual or current technical information issued by the vehicle manufacturer. The publication, model year, engine and sales market must match the claim being made.
For general topics, suitable sources may include recognized industry bodies, oil manufacturers and technical publications. A manufacturer’s product claim is identified as a manufacturer claim. It is not presented as an independent RedOil test result.
Sources should be linked close to the relevant explanation or in a clearly labelled source list. When sources disagree, the guide should explain the difference where possible and avoid presenting an uncertain figure as settled fact.
Vehicle Scope and Units
A vehicle guide identifies the model year, engine and market it covers. Oil capacity figures must state whether the filter is included and whether the number describes a routine refill or another condition. Litres, US quarts and Imperial quarts are labelled explicitly when used.
An instruction for one version of a vehicle should not be generalized to all cars carrying the same model name. Readers should be able to see the guide’s scope before relying on a specification.
Writing and Review
Before publication, each guide is checked for a clear answer, accurate terminology, working source links and any limitations that affect its use. Important specifications are checked against the cited source rather than copied from an unrelated article.
The writing should separate what a source says from an interpretation or practical suggestion. Uncertainty should be explained in the same section as the relevant claim. A longer article is not automatically more useful; the content should be as detailed as the question requires.
AI Assisted Content
AI tools may assist with outlining, drafting, editing or illustrative images. A human editor remains responsible for checking the content before publication. An AI-generated statement is not treated as evidence, and a generated image is not presented as a photograph of a test that actually occurred.
Where the method of production matters to understanding a guide or image, it should be explained. We do not use generated identities, invented qualifications or fictional workshop experience to create the appearance of technical authority.
Authorship and Testing Claims
Current guides are published under the RedOil name. This publication name does not imply a professional qualification or an independent laboratory test. A named contributor or technical reviewer is identified only when that person has actually contributed or reviewed the content and agreed to be identified.
If an article includes first-hand testing, it should describe the method, relevant conditions and limits of that test. Research-based comparisons should be described as comparisons, without fabricated ratings, results or awards.
Corrections and Updates
Readers can report a possible error through the contact page. Include the article URL, the detail in question and the source supporting the correction. Vehicle-specific reports are easier to assess when they include the year, engine and market.
Material corrections should be reflected in the article and, when useful to readers, explained in an update note. The displayed update date should change when the content receives a meaningful revision, not simply because the calendar has moved on.
Advertising and Commercial Relationships
If display advertising is introduced, advertisements should be distinguishable from editorial content. If an article includes a paid placement or an affiliate relationship, a clear disclosure should appear where readers can see it before acting on the recommendation.
Payment should not be used to disguise promotional copy as an independent conclusion. An advertisement displayed alongside a guide does not establish that RedOil has tested or endorsed the advertiser’s product.
Limits of the Content
RedOil does not inspect vehicles through its articles. Educational content cannot establish the cause of an individual fault or replace instructions for a particular engine. Readers should consult the relevant vehicle documentation and obtain appropriate assistance when a practical problem needs assessment.
